Exciting Changes!

To all my dedicated readers (the handful of friends and family that tell me they read this!),

I know it's been a long time since I've posted anything on here. But fret not, it's because I've been busy working with (sister-in-law) Emily on a brand new blog! We've decided to combine forces to create the Penncroft Homestead, a lifestyle blog that will focus on things that embody sustainability, affordability and beauty. It will be a lot of DIY projects, upcycling goods, and making things from scratch. Additionally it will be a resource for thrifty living in the Philadelphia area, listing good consignment shops, farmers markets and the like.

I've kept up with this blog for about a full year now, my how time flies! I've enjoyed recording and sharing projects and interests. And it's probably the closest thing to a diary that I've ever kept, a modest accomplishment for me. But I'm looking forward to working with Emily, and focusing our efforts on projects that we're really passionate about. I hope if you ever enjoyed reading my posts here you'll start to follow us at the Penncroft Homestead!

Etsy Craft Party: Philadelphia

If you haven't heard, Etsy is having a worldwide craft party tomorrow, June 20th! This year's theme is "Craft for Community". If you're in the Philly area, you should join me and Emily from Growing Wild Ginger! It's being held at 3rd Ward in Northern Liberties. There will be a potluck, craft supply swap and crafting fun. They will also collect art supplies for local art camps within the community. And the best part is it's FREE, so register here! 

So if you were only planning to sit around on your bum tomorrow night, gather up some craft supplies instead. Let me know if I'll see you there!

Import your Google Reader List into Bloglovin

*If you have never used either, Bloglovin is a way to keep track of all the blogs you like or visit frequently. All the new posts are displayed in a feed so you can get to the posts that interest you most.

Pin & Post Respectfully

I love using Pinterest along with 25 million others. But as Pinterest's popularity has grown exponentially it has become a place to curate images as well as divert traffic to respective blogs. Because the world wide web is a free-for-all of images and links it's easy to pin things without the original source, steal ideas and magically make it your own. Now that I'm trying to blog consistently, it has come to my attention that there must be a certain etiquette for pinning and posting alike. It's important to be respectful of other's work whether it be a recipe, photograph or design.

Yesterday I received an e-mail from Pinterest which informed me that one of my pins was removed from a board because the artist requested it to be taken from Pinterest altogether, not necessarily because of my specific pin.

"While many copyright owners are happy to have their content Pinned on Pinterest, we recognize that some do not want their content to appear on Pinterest. Where, as here, a copyright owner notifies us that they want their content removed under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA"), it is our policy to remove the allegedly infringing Pin, as well as all other Pins that contain the same content if the copyright owners so chooses."

Since Pinterest assured me I'm "blameless" I didn't think anything of it.  Later on I happened to follow the LINKwithlove button on My Scandinavian Home. What's that?

So, I jumped into the whole blogging game sometime last year, and made a Tumblr account. After a few months of posts I quickly realized that Tumblr was not the outlet I was looking for. And instead of picking up and leaving for greener pastures, my posting trailed off... But I'm back at it with renewed vigor thanks to my awesome sister-in-law and gal pal, Emily. She's got her own blogging going on at Growing Wild Ginger, and has inspired me to get posting again. My biggest challenge is that I'm terrible at remembering to take photos as I do things, and then it's sort of boring to just see a finished project. My goal is to be better at documenting, and sharing too. And in the meantime, while I continually tweak and learn how to grow this blog, I'm bringing over older posts from www.adventurenauts.tumblr.com
